A landmark settlement was reached the first week of November 2023 between Baltimore City and the State of Maryland. The settlement forced Baltimore City to repair all their facilities within a given period. 4.75 million will be used in addition to that for funding towards the restoration of the Back River and Patapsco River tributary systems of the Chesapeake Bay. This is possibly the highest fine ever issued for a Clean Water Act violation.
